The Illinois CPA Society and its charitable partner, the CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois, are seeking minority college students pursuing careers in the accounting and finance profession to participate in the ninth annual Mary T. Washington Wylie Internship Preparation Program.
For the health and safety of all participants, the all-expenses paid, award-winning program will be held virtually this year on Jan. 6-8, 2021. The deadline to apply online at www.icpas.org/mtww is Nov. 9, 2020, after which selected scholars will partake in an agenda aimed at arming them with the key skills needed to succeed in internships within leading accounting firms and corporate finance departments. Participants will engage in various sessions with representatives from Abbott, Crowe LLP, Deloitte LLP, Ernst & Young LLP, Grant Thornton LLP, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, KPMG LLP, PwC LLP, Sikich LLP, and Wipfli LLP, who will also be interviewing for a variety of paid internship opportunities.
Other program highlights include motivational keynotes, resume advice, interview coaching, team building exercises, LinkedIn profile development, and opportunities to network with mentors, program alumni, and other diverse students. Additionally, all scholars will receive a $500 scholarship to help with their educational expenses.
“In just three days, this amazing program prepares participants to successfully make the crucial transition from student to young professional,” says Kari L. Natale, CAE, senior director of the CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois. “It’s incredibly rewarding to watch these students become more motivated, confident, and better prepared to succeed in the accounting and finance profession as each day passes. They’ll truly accomplish things they never realized were possible.”
